When Mary and Steve's daughters, Rachel and Lauren, came along, Ruth was very excited and excelled at being a Grandma. She didn't just do a jigsaw with them, she would get them to draw a picture, then she'd turn it into a jigsaw using her laser cutter for them to complete. She always said she loved being a young Grandma, after she got over the initial shock of Mary becoming such a Mum at such a young age. She she loved taking them to do all the things she loved to do as a child, whether that was exploring castles or going to the beach.

Twenty years later she became a Grandma again, when Simon and Leanne had Sammy, and although she said she didn't have the same energy, you would never have known that. Sammy loved all his trips to Grandma's and all her trips to see him where she'd take him out on picnics and adventures. He'd boss her about playing games with him. Sammy is probably the only person who could get away with bossing Ruth about. But I think it's fair to say she has passed on her wild imagination to all her grandchildren. Ruth was also a loving and supportive mother in law to Steven, Leanne and Catherine, and a loyal friend to many.

Her curiosity never stopped and she was always learning new things, taking many different courses in many different genres. Including the stained glass course which she first began 33 years ago, under the instruction of her now very good fried, Gail, an accomplished stained glass artist.

She made many stained glass pieces over the years and every the outer door of their house in Abban Street had a stained glass window, a Celtic spiral with Angels on eaither side, which came with them to Laurel Avenue. The last window she made was a view of Gruinard Bay where she spent a lot of time with her family. It was finished just a few days before she was admitted to hospital. She was so strong and resilient. Ruth also loved to paint, and many of her pictures are hung in the house. She very much enjoyed her painting holidays the last couple of years with her good friends, Gail and Julie.

Ruth was her own woman and not afraid to be so. You would not want to mess with her. She was one of those people who was always right, and as much as we hated to admit it, she was... always right.
