About Ruth - continued
When Ruth took over the running of Anna Macneil from her mother in the late 1990s, she and Len were living in St Michael's Rectory in Inverness where Len was Rector of St Michael and All Angels Scottish Episcopal Church, a position he held from 1980 until 2011. It was a large Rectory with 6 bedrooms and 4 public rooms and with a large, mostly wild gardens with five tall Scots Pines at the far end - a marvellous place to bring up a family - and in time, Anna Macneil spread to several of those rooms.
At this time, Ruth was working as a Science Technician, first at Inverness High School and then at Inverness Royal Academy (affectionally known locally as 'the IRA'). As well as continuing make Harris Tweed hats using her mother's designs, Ruth soon developed new hats as well as adding numerous other products to the Anna Macneil range. You will find the full Anna Macneil story from the menu button - top left.
When ill health forced Ruth to seek early retirement from Highland Council, she decided to concentrate on building up Anna Macneil. It was also at this time when she began to develop her Vestment making skills. The first major piece of equipment that Ruth invested in was her laser cutter, but her embroidery work from the very beginning was done either by hand or using her favourite Bernina sewing machines. You will find the full Ecclesiastical Embroidery story under Vestments on the menu button - top left.
