About Ruth - continued

Ruth completed her 6th year at Eastwood High School and followed her sister, Susan, to Aberdeen University where she was studying Biochemistry where Ruth's studies were in Biology. She and Susan worshipped in St Margaret's Episcopal Church in the Gallowgate in the centre of Aberdeen where the young Curate was Len Black who had been ordained Deacon in August 1972 and Priest in June 1973.

One of the key members of St Margaret's was Michael Grant, who had been Treasurer for many years and seemed to have a mission in life to find partners for the young students who attended St Margaret's. Michael had persuaded another student, Grant Mackie, to take Ruth to the annual St Margaret's-tide Dinner Dance and he duly bought Ruth's ticket – Ruth still had the ticket stub all these years later! Unfortunately, at the last minute, Grant was called away to collect his brother from the airport and Micheal persuaded Len to 'look after Ruth' ... and, as they say, the rest is history.
